Our Pork

These Large-Black Tamworth Cross heritage pigs have been lovingly raised on an all-organic diet of weekly rotating pastures, soaked organic whole and milled grains, organic sunflower-pumkin seed butter, apples, and vegetable scraps!  We raised 6 beautiful pigs, and are so pleased to announce that we are now taking orders for their delicious and high-quality meat.

They will be sold by 20-25 lb. “bundle” of mixed cuts.  $7.50/lb if you are ordering only one bundle.  $7/lb for 2 bundles.  $6.50/lb for 3 or more bundles.

Cuts vary somewhat per bundle but would likely include 3 packages of pork chops (2 per pkg), 1 pkg pork blade chops, 2-3 pkgs bacon (1lb), 2-3 pkg sausage (1 lb), 1 ribs or ham,  1 package ground pork or hocks, 1 roast, 1 ham steak.

To put in your order please email fourfoldfarmcsa@gmail.com specifying your name, and the number of bundles you would like to order.  Please also indicate if you are interested in any of the following: liver, lard, heart, or kidney.  These will be sold separately.

The first Guelph delivery of bundles will be on Oct. 23 from 5-7pm.  Pick-up is also possible on-farm.  More details, and a newsletter detailing cooking instructions will be included with your order.

Order your chickens!

We are now taking orders for our second and last batch of meat chickens!  We ask for a minimum order of 4 and we only sell whole birds.  Chickens are 5 dollars a pound and range from 5-8 pounds per bird.  Pick-up of frozen birds will be taking place at 47 Meadowview Ave. from 4-6pm on August 21.  This will be the last chicken sale until next summer, so don’t miss your chance if you have been looking for delicious, organic, pasture-raised chicken!

Also we are pleased to introduce the newest members of the Fourfold Farm Crew.  This is week 5 for our new Large Black-Tamworth Cross pigs.  They are settling in and enjoying their very mixed diet of pasture, soaked organic grains (barley, corn, oats, rye, soy, peas and more), and organic pumpkin-sunflower seed butter.  Each week we move them to a new piece of pasture, and they spend their days munching, rooting, and cooling off in their wallow (mud-hole, essential for pigs on hot days as they do not have sweat glands!) :

Fourfold Farm Pastured Chicken: Place your orders!

Once you have had pasture-raised chicken you cannot go back! Chickens raised on pasture are succulent, and flavourful! In addition to forage, sunshine, and clean air, our chickens are all fed certified organic grain from Homestead Organics and Jones Feed Mill. They are rotated every day to a fresh piece of pasture, benefitting both the animal’s health and contributing to soil fertility in our future garden space!

We raise a limited number of birds because of production restrictions in Ontario. The average weight of our chickens is 5lb, and price is $5 per pound with a minimum order of 4 birds. That may seem pricy, but grain prices are very high this year because of last year’s drought and so it is what we need to do.  Chickens are sold as whole birds. Any questions about our practices are welcome and appreciated! Chickens will be distributed at the 47 Meadowview Ave. in Guelph or at Fourfold Farm on July 24. With your order will include a newsletter on how to properly cook and piece whole pastured chickens with your order. Hooray for pastured chicken! Questions about our practices are welcome!

To place your order you can email fourfoldfarmcsa@gmail.com or call us at 226 821 0572.

Spring has arrived with full momentum.  Fourfold Farm CSA Farmers Seb, Bethany, and Andrew have been in the gardens full time, weeding and planting.  150 meat chicks have arrived, and will be on pasture in just a few weeks.  Andrew and Audrey, the new American Milking Devon Cow, have been spending quality time together- becoming familiar with their morning milking routine.  A number of fruit trees have been added to the mix of trees on the farm. Everything is quickly greening up, and with next week’s rains we will be well on our way to our first harvest.

A big thank you to Project Serve Mississippi and the Headwaters Class for their help this week!

Only a few CSA shares left- email fourfoldfarmcsa@gmail.com to reserve one of the last ones.

Before flowers are up, spring is a hard time for bees.  For this reason we made our bees a special biodynamic tea made of honey and chamomile to help them through this time.  Chamomile apparently helps boost their immunity.  The bees obviously like it!

Spring Awakes!

Fourfold Farm CSA farmers Andrew, Seb, Erin, and Bethany were hard at work before sunrise on Saturday morning to install plastic on their new greenhouse.  This greenhouse is now the new home to a number of seedlings- kale, celery, chard, onions, herbs, and more!  The greenhouse will also host tomato plants in the summer, and cold-hardy greens like Spinach and Arugula through winter.  On the farm a busy greenhouse is a true sign that spring is on it’s way!

Another building project on the farm is the Yome.  Bethany and Seb have been busy putting up their new home, and here it is almost complete!  This structure is called a Yome, and is a hybrid of a “yurt” and a “dome”.  This is an all-seasons off-grid structure made with hemp canvas, a silicon-sealed roof, and locally milled hemlock lumber.

Next up on the spring building projects list: moveable chicken tractors, an office, a milk-parlour, and cold storage… so much to do, but we’re all delighted that the farming season is beginning.
